  • maybe you should try using your finger muscles instead of your wrist muscles. you will find it easier to manipulate the ball this way.

  • Unless you use the same amount of time learning the trackball as you did learning a mouse. You will not ever get any benefit from your efforts.

  • The buttons don't do anything BECAUSE YOU DIDn'T CONFIGURE THEM.

    Derp, derp derp.

  • It takes DAYS to fully adjust to a trackball.

    This is a bullshit test.

  • Ive been gaming on pc with trackball for 20 years. people like to t alk shit i think most people think a trackball is that thumb ball style. but theres not many trackballs if any that are really designed with features for games. i used the kengsinton for a long time while i think my accuracy is a bit lower using this new one but im using ELECOM M-HT1URBK because it actually has a DPI switch and the mouse wheel on the side for thumb use which is easier than the wheel around the ball

  • I wonder if you purposely tanked this video for some reason or if you're just that clueless about trackballs. I admit, I just stumbled on this video so I don't know based on other videos or anything. That Kensington trackball is absolutely NOT something you would use for gaming. It's something you would use for video editing etc. For trying to game with a trackball, you would want something like the Logitech M570 3where the trackball part is entirely moved by just your thumb and the rest is like a normal mouse.

Also, when trying ANYTHING to see "if it can be used" for this or that, you should ALWAYS customize it and tweak it, NEVER use it stock. Of course those other buttons aren't going to do anything if you don't assign any function to them. You should also give some thought to the learning curve of using anything you're not familiar with. After a day of using my trackball, I never wanted to go back to a normal mouse again.

If you've already done this, just ignore this part, but I think you should do an update video on this, trying various trackballs and giving thought to the points I mentioned above.

  • 10 minutes for a review? that's like trying a non-qwerty keyboard for a MMO and review it after 2 rounds in some game. c'mon, show some seriousness, man

  • I use this one, and with the right settings it amazing I set up a binding for snipping and on my widescreen set up half a rotation one side to the other mine is the older one though. it also set up to automatically change settings with the programs.

  • That style trackball is perfect for Marble Madness and Arkanoid, if you like arcade gaming.

  • The Assassin 3D from the 90s was one of the best controllers available, with a learning curve. Most of the time I found using it left handed with a joystick per-programed with macros on the right. I think you may not have seen the older users and uses of trackball gaming so will shoot you some clues… trackball for aiming and side step front and back on alternate controller be it keyboard, game pad, or joystick. Later before the company disappeared they even made a trackball joystick combo called the Panther XL. They can be used, and amazingly, once you break the habit of mouse control that is so ingrained into todays society. If they made a usb version that was still available that is what I would be using to this day. *EDIT: MADCATZ still exists but the line was dropped long ago. Google some videos and how to game with one.*

  • Trackballs are like an in-between joystick and mouse, but definitely an upgrade from Trackpad, and a sidegrade from track dot.
It will have pros and cons related to both a joystick and mouse.
You get somewhat precise aiming, its a learn-able method of control that improves over time for the user, but its not analogue, friction exists, and you only have short movements to work with and no broad or continuous ones (unless you have bearings and it keeps spinning like a golf or centipede arcade ball).

I'd like to see some controllers that use a trackball. it would definitely be an improvement over Steam Controller touch pad.

  • it's impossible to use a trackball in gaming. Mouse is still the best way to play games, morover it is possible to use the buttons in easy way. I use five buttons on my mouse.

  • Why don't they make track balls built into a controller where you use your thumbs to move it? It could be better than a joystick.

  • I have been gaming with a Kensington Expert Trackball for 20 years and it blows the crap out of a normal mouse. I had even won a couple UT tournaments with it back when I was younger, hah. You just can't do 180 degree turns fast enough with a mouse and still retain fine movements without the use of key modifiers or software acceleration. Trackballs for life.

  • I been playing all my PC games with Kingston expert trackball for many years now, and I like it, I do really great in Overwatch and a few other competitive online games its just a matter of practice, overall I love my trackball so much more than the mouse that I used to use so many years ago. if anyone is interested in at least trying trackball for gaming just make sure you give your self enough time to get used to it, you may find its a lot better then using a mouse.

  • It honestly looks pretty fun to use that.

  • A thumb ball would probably have been a lot better as the buttons are a lot closer to what you have on a normal mouse. I've never used a finger ball but it seems like it would be really hard to aim down sights, move the ball and shoot at the same time, on a thumb ball that's no problem since you usually aren't pressing any buttons with your thumb anyway.

  • the reason these rise are a thing is that it helps with arthritis, so if your wrist hurts, you gotta loosen up and use your fingers more, these mice have a high sensitivity, so it should not be a problem

  • As "yesfull man" says: You are using it wrong!
You are using it like a mouse. Your should have a M570. You'll be a bit tense in the thumb for a short time, but when you relax…
