I decided to review the Gekko weapon after update 3.1 as this weapon has gone through so many buffs over the past couple of updates. How much damage can you achieve with 4 maxed Gekkos and is this weapon now worth the 750 gold?
Whenever I choose a weapon and especially if it’s gold, I always gravitate towards weapons which perform well on most maps. The Gekko is not one of them. While it does very well on larger maps such as Canyon, Springfield and Yamantau, it tends to suffer on smaller maps especially Dead City, Moon, Powerplant and Valley.
When using the Gekko, I tend to focus down enemy snipers FIRST so that I disable the other team’s range. Once I have done this I usually target those without physical shields. A few things players should also be aware of when using any long range build (including the Patton Gekko): Always keep an eye on your teammates in terms of their robots. If you notice them meching out fast then it’s time to ditch. Keep an eye on the beacon bar and your team’s beacons. If they are heavily against you then it’s time to ditch as well. Be prepared to ditch if running the Patton Gekko as it could very well cost you many wins. Remember… if you don’t win, you don’t earn gold.
